Stoptober...smoking cessation

Want to give up smoking, but unsure where to start...?

Here are 5 points to consider to support your quit smoking success

  1. Be sure that you are doing this for YOU - not for anyone else - partner, kids, expense, friends etc and that you REALLY want to.
  2. Be sure that now is the right time - if you are under pressure in other areas of your life, (family, work, moving house etc) it's not the right time. Don't set yourself up to fail.
  3. Think about why you smoke & when you smoke - For e.g. a lot of people have a cigarette at work to take a break or relieve stress or when out socialising with friends. Think about what might change or need to change when you become smoke free. Becoming smoke free is life changing.
  4. It's not about giving up, stopping or quitting, it's about becoming smoke free - You weren't born a smoker, you will be going back to your natural state. When you smoke you are being pushed around, told what to do, given orders by the habit. No-one likes to be pushed around.
  5. Be open to the possibility that it might be easier to become smoke free than you think - Most smokers have tried to be become smoke free before. Past failures are not indicators of future sucess.
