
Hypnosis - a wonderfully effective treatment & much misunderstood

For a long time people have had a very bad impression of hypnosis. Television and films have portrayed it as something almost sinister, as some form of mind control, and various stage shows, encouraging people to take part in ludicrous behaviour, have all contributed to making people wary of using hypnotherapy.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Hypnosis is not mind control, being in hypnosis is just being in a very relaxed state. At all times you remain in control and, contrary to belief, are awake and aware of what is being said to you. It is a wonderful, pleasant, deeply relaxing experience and a fantastic way of helping people with all sorts of problems. Even if you just need help to relax, hypnotherapy is the perfect way of de-stressing.
Hypnosis is a state of relaxation and concentration together with heightened awareness that has been induced by suggestion. Hypnosis has been around since the time of the Egyptians and has been used for a very long time as a tool for helping people with psychological problems, for performing painless operations and, of course, for entertainment. Hypnotherapy can be used to help people with all sorts of problems and these can be as diverse as nail biting, pre-test and exam nerves, difficulty relaxing, anxiety, confidence boosting and, of course, smoking, weight loss and pain management. Research tells us that many people with anxiety disorders go untreated, usually because they don't know where to go and they don't know what effective treatments are available.
Thousands of people will suffer from anxiety disorders in the UK at some point in their lives. Symptoms include nervousness, restlessness, sleeplessness, excessive worrying, fatigue, feelings of panic, irritability, difficulty concentrating, tension, racing heart, fear of a particular object or situations (phobias) and intrusive unwanted thoughts. Phobias especially can have terrible effect on peoples' lives; a very common one appears to be Emetophobia - the fear of vomiting/choking. This type of phobia can completely rule a person's life, stopping them from going out and enjoying something a simple as going for a drink with their friends or a family meal. Hypnotherapy has an extremely good success rate in ridding people of this awful condition.
There is no 'swinging of watches' and no making you bark like a dog either!
