Lymphatic Drainage Massage – What is it and when could it help?

What is the Lymphatic system?

The Lymphatic System is part of your immune system, it is made up of Lymph Nodes, Tonsils, the Spleen and Adenoids.

The Lymphatic System’s main function is to help defend your body from viruses and infections by flushing out toxins in the body.

The Lymphatic System contains Lymph Nodes. Lymph Nodes are tiny cells that are found in groups in your neck, under arm, tummy, and groin area. Lymph Fluid runs from Node to Node via a system similar to (but separate from) the circulatory system.

Occasionally Lymph Nodes can become swollen (from fluid retention) when the body is dealing with a virus, infection or post-surgery and may benefit from a very gentle massage to help encourage the movement of the Lymph Fluid.

In rare cases Lymph nodes can swell when cancer is present in the body. Unfortunately, at this moment in time we are unable to offer Lymphatic Drainage Massage to anyone who currently has cancer or has received treatment for cancer within the last six months.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a gentle, therapeutic massage which uses light pressure and gentle rhythmic strokes to encourage the movement of Lymph Fluids around the body, helping to reduce waste and toxins that may be stored within the Lymphatic System.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is very different from other forms of massage, and we would not advise substituting Lymphatic Drainage for more general types of massage.

What can Lymphatic Drainage Massage help with?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage may help with swollen arms and legs, post-surgery recovery including liposuction (check with your doctor first that it is suitable for you), and recurrent infections such as colds etc.
