Moxibustion for Breech

Moxibustion is a technique which Acupuncturists offer to help to turn a breech baby into a head down position ready for birth.

No needles are used and the procedure is carried out in a forty five minute session. It is perfectly safe for both the mother to be and the baby and is an effective way to correct breech presentation and thus prevent surgical intervention.  The technique involves the burning of a chinese herb called moxa over paticular acupuncure points on the foot of the pregnant woman to relax the uterus and encourage the baby to move and to turn. The best results are often gained before week 36/37 as after this stage there is so little room for the baby to move, although it is still possible for some babies to still turn after this point.

Usually only one treatment is required, where the acupuncturist will do the moxibustion, teach where the points are, and then give a moxa stick to the woman to continue the process at home if required.
