Resolutions – Did you break?

How are you getting on with your resolutions? Are you strong and resilient? Or have you broken them already?

The chances are you’ve had a wobble or even given up completely.

There can be a myriad of reasons why you’re struggling to uphold your resolve, but here’s a couple of reasons why you may be having a bit of a wrangle...

Is it realistic?

Darling , I love you but you are never going to look like Kim Kardashian, have hair like Jennifer Aniston or abs like Jennifer Lopez.

Wanting to be the best you, you can be is understandable, but make sure goals are achievable and practical.

Now just isn’t the right time?

The new year can seem like a brilliant time to make a change  - the year is young and fresh and new.

But January is a difficult time of year, grey and gloomy, funds are likely to have been stretched over the festive period so money is tight, and the jolt back to reality can be a lot to cope with.

Why not wait for a time that feels right for you, not when the calendar dictates – maybe that hint of sunshine, warmer weather or when the kids are back and settled in a routine will give you that space and energy to make a change.

You’ve bitten off a whole chunk of a resolution and it's just too huge?

Changes can be difficult even for the most determined of us, breaking it down into bite size morsels can be much more practical and easier to achieve.

Taking it step by step allows you to feel a sense of achievement and remain in control.

It wasn’t your idea

The kids are telling you you should stop. Your partners full of support and suggestions – even Aunt Mary is cutting out articles from her magazine for you.

But the sheer truth is that unless YOU want to do it, odds are you won’t succeed.

Encouragement is great and much appreciated but the final decision must be yours and yours alone.

Don’t give up…

No matter if you have a little wobble or a great big fall, you can always start again once the time is right and you are ready to come back to it.

Remember - if it’s the right change for you - you can try, try again.

Would a little support help?

There are many online organisations and groups that can offer you FREE support – but make sure you choose a reputable source – e.g. the NHS offer support for quitting smoking and weight loss.

However, if you feel you may need more face to face or hands on support then we at the Bridge Centre have a whole host of skilled Therapists waiting to help.

For more information on Talking Therapies (such as Counselling and Hypnotherapy), Acupuncture, Pilates and much more why not give the Bridge Team a call on 01332 521 270 and we'd be happy to help you find the right treatment for you.
