Fiona Mayo – TCM & Tan/Tung Acupuncturist
I'm Fiona Mayo, an Acupuncturist trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a special interest in Women's Health. I have additional qualifications in National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) and Tan/Tung style Acupuncture.
TCM has been practised for thousands of years, and the earliest recorded manual dates back at least two thousand years. The skills were passed down through generations of families until the last century, when the theories were once again written down so the knowledge could then be passed to students all around the world.
Master Tung and Dr Tan came from families who developed their own styles of acupuncture, related to TCM but both still significantly different. Their points are distal, so not near the site of pain or injury, and use far less needles than TCM. Both styles are especially effective for musculoskeletal issues, whereas TCM has strength in more chronic or emotional symptoms.
Having knowledge of different styles helps address symptoms swiftly where necessary, and can bring immediate (short term) results e.g. shoulder pain. The underlying imbalance can then be addressed using TCM.
Becoming an Acupuncturist has introduced more balance in my life. I make sure I spend quality time outdoors and appreciate and respect the environment. I have one daughter who is starting her adult life at University this year, and hope to use my new time and space to embrace the next season of my life.

What people say about Fiona
Fibromyalgia
"On my first visit to Fiona it was more like a therapy session, she took so much time to listen and get a thorough history from me. She listened with kindness and empathy and made me feel validated...
Acupuncture is really helping with the daily pain and my sleep is so much better than it was. I always come away feeling so relaxed. I nap for a couple of hours pain free which is a game changer!"
