Straighten Up Your Back Pain

The Pain

Back pain can come from the lower back, shoulders or neck. The effect on every day life can vary from complete debilitation to mild discomfort, with constant nagging pain or aches and strains when moving and could result in loss or restrictive movement and days off work.

The Impact

Back Pain is the most common form of pain, whether it be from an injury, everyday wear and tear or age onset issues.

If Unresolved

Some issues may resolve themselves with rest and over the counter pain killers but for those persistent or reoccurring issues additional support from one of our skilled Practitioners may be able to help.

A very local centre that I'm currently using due to sciatic nerve pain. Lovely helpful staff and the treatment is working!

Treatment Options

It’s important that you choose the right treatment that you feel will help you. Osteopathy is a great starting point for any pain related issue.

Osteopathy provides skilled diagnosis and treatment concerning primarily, but not only, the structure and function of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system i.e. the joints, muscles, ligaments, membranous and fascial tissues, and the central and peripheral nervous system.

Once an initial assessment has been made the Osteopath may offer treatment or suggest an alternative therapy e.g. Acupuncture, Massage Therapy. As an holistic therapy your Osteopath may also make suggestions to improve overall health and wellbeing such as regular Pilates sessions to help maintain mobility and movement in the long term.

Fertility Issues - Supporting You

The Pain

For many couples the fertility journey is far from easy. It is estimated that around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty conceiving (NHS: 2018) which amounts to approximately 3.5 million people in the UK.

The Impact

The physical and emotional effects of infertility can be devastating with relationships strained and bodies exhausted.

If Unresolved

Various factors (including stress) can lead to hormonal imbalances, which can adversely affect fertility.

My husband and I had been trying for a baby for three years and were on the waiting list for IUI treatment when a friend asked if we had considered acupuncture and told us about The Bridge Centre for Natural Health. Having a phobia of needles didn’t help, but on the first appointment acupuncture was fully explained and the worry of needles was quickly put to one side. The centre itself has a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere and all the staff are extremely friendly. The acupuncture was a complete success, and now we have an adorable 5 month old baby boy to show for it.

Treatment Options

There’s lots of advice out there about improving your chances of conceiving, from eating a balanced diet to taking regular exercise, introducing healthy sleep habits and trying to manage your stress levels. If you’re looking for additional support with your fertility you may want to consider Acupuncture.

Research indicates that Acupuncture may be able to help with fertility in several ways; increasing levels in hormone production, including FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) as well as oestrogen and progesterone, which in turn helps to create a more balanced cycle.

Acupuncture may also assist by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs. Improving the thickness of the endometrial lining can help improve the chance of successful embryo implantation.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is one of the leading causes of fertility issues in females. As well as helping balance hormones levels Acupuncture may also support you with ovulation and cyst reduction.

Alongside Acupuncture, support with relaxation and emotional wellbeing can be found through treatments such as Massage Therapies, Reflexology, Reiki and Talking Therapies.

Heading off Migraines and Headaches

The Pain

Headaches and Migraine can range from pains in the head, to ‘vice like’ stiffness of the neck and shoulders, flashing lights, nausea and vomiting.

The Impact

Headaches and Migraine are not unusual, and the occasional headache after a day of stress or upset is common place – however if you suffer with reoccuring or persistent, crippling head pain, that affects every day life on a regular basis, then you may need additional support to help reduce severity and frequency.

If Unresolved

Regular Headaches or Migraines can affect your ability to complete everyday tasks possibly resulting in absence from work and even missing important events with friends and family.

Five Element Acupuncture has given me my life back. I used to spend 2-3 days in bed every month with migraines. Now I spend 45 minutes every 2-3 months having acupuncture and continue enjoying my life. Once we got the migraines under control we started to tackle my asthma.

Treatment Options

If you suffer from headaches and migraine you don’t need us to tell you about the misery they can cause. They are, however, generally symptomatic of something else and it is this ‘something else’ that we look to treat in order to help relieve the symptoms of headache or migraine.

Triggers can include hormonal imbalance, food intolerance, stress and anxiety or a result of tension or a physical dysfunction in the head, neck and shoulder area.  We have a range of treatment options, all of which work alongside conventional medical treatments and medication and can be accessed quickly when needed.

Some Headache and Migraine sufferers may benefit from regular treatments to help them continue to manage their symptoms.

Suggested therapies include Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Massage Therapies, Reflexology and Reiki.

Get Back To You – Managing Stress and Anxiety

The Pain

The symptoms of Stress and Anxiety are different for everyone, but can commonly display as anger, aggression or tears, with associated problems such as sleeping and eating.

The Impact

Stress is a regular part of everyday life, and can be the catalyst to help us to make changes in our lives – however when stress, becomes anxiety and begins to prevent us from completing tasks, or begins to show in physical forms such as headache or nausea then it is important that we seek help to get us back on track.

If Unresolved

Stress and Anxiety can affect our ability to complete day to day activities. If untreated it can also lead to longer term issues such as depression and even physical issues such as high blood pressure and even heart disease.

Amazing! As someone who finds it difficult to switch off I was very surprised that I relaxed so deeply within just a few minutes. I slept so well for days after the treatment and also felt generally better in myself – more balanced and definitely uplifted.

Treatment Options

Talking Therapies like Counselling and Hypnotherapy can be very helpful, as can body-based approaches like Massage, Reiki and Acupuncture. For some people exercise is the thing that works e.g. Pilates.

Help is available and it is important to reach out and ask for it before things get too bad.

Post-Surgery Support

The Pain

After surgery, physical symptoms like swelling, tenderness, and tightness are common as the body heals. In some cases, swelling persists, making movement difficult and causing ongoing discomfort. This can lead to frustration, especially when clothing or shoes no longer fit as they should.

The Impact

For patients recovering from cosmetic procedures, visible swelling can also affect body confidence, leaving them feeling self-conscious or embarrassed. Together, these physical and emotional challenges can make recovery feel overwhelming.

If Unresolved

If post-surgical swelling isn’t managed, it can prolong healing and increase the risk of complications like infection, extending the recovery period and delaying a return to normal activities.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage may offer relief from post-surgery inflammation, especially for those recovering from cosmetic procedures like liposuction or tummy tucks.

This gentle massage uses light pressure and rhythmic strokes to encourage the movement of lymph fluid, helping to reduce swelling and eliminate toxins.

Please note that lymphatic drainage massage is not available for individuals undergoing cancer treatment or those treated for cancer within the last six months.

Stress & Anxiety are incredibly common issues – but no matter how frequently they occur they can be extremely debilitating – creating roadblocks in your life. When stress & anxiety become all consuming working with a Talk Therapist can create the support and space you need to navigate through your problems.

Talking Therapies come in all shapes and sizes – whether it be counselling, hypnotherapy or EFT (Tapping). Each therapy, and therapist works with the individual to identify the area of need e.g. stress and anxiety and work out a bespoke plan to address the issue and support you moving forward.

The main theory of Acupuncture is to help restore and rebalance the body when issues occur whether via age, illness or injury.

When in Menopause or peri-menopause the body becomes out of balance, and issues such as hot flushes, night sweats, brain fog (or memory problems) and sleep issues can develop.

Acupuncture seeks to rebalance the system by offering support to the individual, and their unique symptoms and is safe to use with or without HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).

The reformer machines available in our Pilates Studio offer an additional level of support when exercising. They help encourage a greater movement range whilst offering support for balance. They also allow exercises to be performed in a more considered and controlled way – a great addition to all levels of ability.
