Minor injuries are a part of life, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to succumb to days, weeks or even months of discomfort!

Most of us have suffered an injury at one time or another. A sprained ankle, a torn ligament, maybe a pulled muscle. Whilst many injuries are short-lived and quick to resolve themselves, it’s not uncommon for signs of injury to linger, causing a host of discomfort and disruption to our daily lives.

It goes without saying that with any new, or prolonged, injury a trip to the GP or an Emergency Care provision is essential in order to receive a thorough assessment and necessary checks and treatment. After that though, you don’t have to suffer alone in your recovery, there are treatments and therapies that may be able to help you along the way.

Of course the best course of action when it comes to injuries is to try and prevent them occurring where at all possible. Appropriate warm up and cool down exercises before and after exercise can help, as can taking precautionary steps in the workplace. If you have a desk job, supportive chairs for posture and regular breaks to move around can help reduce strain on the body. If your job involves manual labour, correct lifting and handling techniques can help avoid back injuries.

All best intentions aside, many injuries cannot be prevented. They often disrupt our lives suddenly and leave us struggling with pain as we try and navigate our way back to ‘normal’.

Injuries are a common reason for seeking Osteopathic care, this holistic therapy combines techniques such as manipulation, joint articulation, gentle soft tissue work and cranial osteopathy to help bring the body back into balance. From back pain to sports injuries, hip and knee complaints to rehabilitation, Osteopathy can support you in your recovery journey.

Massage is another therapy which many turn to when the body is under stress from injury. Whether that's Back, Neck and Shoulder to help with muscle tension, Sports Massage to assist with injury rehabilitation, or Lymphatic Drainage for injuries that have resulted in edema.

If you’re looking for long term support with an injury, or to build strength and flexibility to reduce the occurrence of injury, Reformer Pilates may be able to support you with your goals. Available in private and semi-private sessions this bespoke exercise and movement system is fully tailored to your fitness level and needs.

However you’re managing your injury, remember to take it easy when you need to and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
