K is for K-Tape

Kinesiology Tape, or K-Tape as it’s otherwise known, is a popular treatment approach for a range of injuries and conditions.

Taping was first invented in the late 70s by Dr. Kenzo Kase, a Japanese Chiropractor and has been adopted by many athletes and physicians around the world. At many sporting events athletes can be seen donning this often brightly coloured tape as it supports without restricting movement.

So why use K Tape?

This flexible, breathable tape is commonly used to support injured muscles and joints, and to help manage pain and reduce swelling. One of the key benefits of K Tape over other athletic and medical support tapes is just how flexible and stretchy it is, offering wearers an increased range of movement.

Kinesiology Tape is not a long term solution to rehabilitation and treating the underlying cause should always remain the goal. Taping should be performed under the supervision of a trained physician, as different taping patterns suit different injuries and it is not suitable for all (in particular those with open wounds or delicate skin).

If you’re experiencing issues which you feel may benefit from Taping we’d always recommend speaking to your GP first to receive assessment and diagnosis. If you’re looking for further support with injury rehabilitation Osteopathy may be able to help, to find out more contact the reception team on 01332 521 270.
