A safe treatment to encourage a breech baby to turn.

During the third trimester you might be told that your baby is breech and whilst many babies can and do turn on their own into a head down position ready for birth, it’s not uncommon for babies to remain in a foot or bottom first presentation. Your midwife will be able to advise you on your options if you find yourself in this situation, every pregnancy is different but these may include a medical procedure to try and turn the baby manually, or perhaps a cesarean birth.

If you’re looking for additional support to try and turn your baby, Moxibustion for Breech may be able to help!

Moxibustion for Breech is performed by Acupuncturists, but there are no needles involved! Instead Moxa (a soft, woolly Chinese herb that’s prepared from mugwort leaves) is burned over a specific acupuncture point on the foot, which may relax the uterus and encourage the baby into a head down position.

The treatment needs to be repeated for 10 days (even if the baby turns), and at your appointment you will be given full instructions along with the moxa to continue the treatment at home. We recommend bringing someone with you to your appointment who will be able to help you continue the Moxibustion at home.

Best results are likely to occur between 34 and 36 weeks of pregnancy as the baby has more room to move at this stage, however some babies can still turn after this point.
