Self-care during pregnancy

There’s a lot of pressure to be ‘blooming’ in pregnancy, but in reality it may be a wondrous, exhausting, blissful, and anxiety-inducing experience, often all at the same time!

Here at The Bridge Centre we’re committed to helping you feel like you throughout your pregnancy. Whether that’s through relaxing treatments to help keep anxiety levels down or therapies to support you with the physical stresses and strains of pregnancy. We also offer Moxibustion for Breech and Reflexology for Induction to help get your body and baby ready for labour.

Pregnancy Massage is a fabulous treatment to help keep stress levels in check, as well as easing any aches, pains and niggles that come with growing a little person. Pregnancy Massage is available at the centre from 12 weeks gestation onwards, and we request that you check with your midwife prior to receiving treatment.

Morning sickness is a common complaint during pregnancy, and covers both physical sickness and nausea. Its effects can vary from person to person, from mild to incredibly debilitating, and it can also differ between pregnancies. If you’re struggling then Acupuncture may be able to help, this holistic therapy treats the person as a whole and is tailored to the individual to support you until your morning sickness subsides.

As the relaxin hormone gets to work during pregnancy, softening ligaments to help the body prepare for birth, it’s not uncommon to experience joint pain, in particular in the pelvic area. Back pain is another frequent complaint during pregnancy, which is no wonder when you consider all the changes happening to your body. Osteopathy is a manual therapy which can support you with musculo-skeletal issues to help bring your body back into balance and manage symptoms through to the birth and beyond if needed.

Moxibustion for Breech is a treatment to help encourage babies in a breech position to move into a head down presentation ready for labour. Best performed between 34 and 36 weeks gestation Moxibustion for Breech involves burning moxa (a Chinese herb prepared from mugwort leaves) over a key acupuncture point on the foot. This may relax the uterus and encourage the baby to turn. This treatment needs repeating for 10 days and at your appointment you will be given full instructions and the moxa to continue the process at home.

Once you’ve reached full term you may be keen to get your body as ready for labour as possible, or even try and encourage labour to begin. Reflexology for Induction may help to induce labour. We’re able to offer a gentle pre-labour treatment from 38 weeks to encourage your body to prepare for the birth, as well as dedicated Reflexology for Induction from 40 weeks onwards.
